There was a time not that long ago when Camden was poor where dining was concerned. This always seemed at odds with the fact that tourists flood the area for shopping at weekends, and there is a multitude of pubs and live music venues attracting people in the evenings. But at last this is changing, and now this neighbourhood famed for its rock ‘n roll history is starting to gain recognition for its restaurants, which range from Gordon Ramsay to quality fish and chips. We predict even greater things for 2014.
One of our top cheap eateries, there is a highly accomplished pan-Asian menu and it’s also BYOB. In the evenings it benefits from dim lighting, adding romance to the dining room.
One of the best of the new burger joints in London, Honest Burgers have made a name for themselves thanks to their carefully sourced ingredients, such as beef from Ginger Pig and free range chickens.
The food on offer at this Indian restaurant on Parkway is of fine dining standard, but without the hefty prices.
One of our favourite Japanese restaurants in London, the menu looks like a densely packed bible, and it’s always full of Japanese people.
Most live music venues in Camden can’t boast about offering superior food, but this one can. Hearty dishes of lamb kofta, sirloin steak and BBQ ribs are skilfully prepared and inexpensive.
Hache’s seemingly endless choice of burgers include patties made from lamb, chicken, duck and tuna as well as beef, with clever toppings like the “Catalan”, which has grilled chorizo, chilli and tomato jam.
This glitzy restaurant in the Stables Market cost £14 million to build and is popular with celebrities. The exquisite pan-Asian menu comes courtesy of Ian Pengelley.
This Brazilian/Caribbean bar does an excellent picanha steak and hearty feijoada alongside tropical-inspired cocktails.
Market offers great British food and they pride themselves on using sustainable, local ingredients.
Made In Camden
It’s part of the Roundhouse venue, but Made In Camden is a worthy destination in itself. The menu is inspired by food from around the world, such as chorizo-stuffed chicken and risotto with artichoke hearts. Their lunchtime deals are exceptionally good value.
Yokoya does take away as well as having a restaurant that opens till 2 am at weekends. There are katsu curries, tepanyaki-grilled dishes occasional specials like steamed egg custard with foie gras and truffle.
York & Albany
Gordon Ramsay’s Camden restaurant is well priced (compared to his other eateries) and has a modern British menu, as well as operating a pizzeria.
This fish and chip shop opened their first eatery in Shoreditch when the interest in 1940s fashion was its peak – cue waitresses dressed in tea dresses and a jukebox in one corner of the room. They did a roaring trade, and in 2013 opened a second branch on the former site of Pier 1, another posh chippy.
And coming soon…
Q opens in January, a BBQ joint courtesy of ex-Ivy Des McDonald.

Working for the man has its benefits which admittedly I do envy from time to time. Long weekends, social work hours, after work shenanigans and the morning after. I do miss those days, in particular that penultimate hour before lunch. When a quick dash to the supermarket, or the local Thai joint will make my day a little more bearable. I use to be in accounts, so you can imagine despite the camaraderie of office life, lunch was always the shining beacon, the breeze of fresh air, an indulgent treat that unplugged my mind from an invoice induced trance… and some times and only sometimes a sarnie just won’t cut it.
At Bintang we are now open for lunch from 12-3 with a beautifully crafted yet efficient Bintang Express Lunch Menu. Come down and give our lunch menu a go. Leave work at work, unplug and take breather… (takeaway available for those on a 5 o’clock deadline)

As we’ve said before, everyone has a bit of history with Bintang, the pan-Asian slung right down there on the lower Kentish Town Road. And as we also remarked a year back, the initial refurb and food offering didn’t seem that impressive. We liked the way it had always been, what with the tiki hut and zero pretensions.
A casual visit last Thursday has changed all that. Whatever doubts once nurtured have vanished: the stylish interior is now more lived in and, well, just hangs together better: neon signs, coffee grinders, bare wood, breeze blocks, intriguing art. Suitably flickery candle-light for these cold nights too. Continue reading
With Halloween hiding behind the curtain, the winds howling and nights getting darker, Camden gets a little more frightening. Here at Bintang we can hold your hand and walk you through so don’t fret as we present our special OFFAL offerings. Continue reading
With Eid-al Adha around the corner, where else better to celebrate and feast with your friends and family? Bintang restaurant being one of London’s best halal pan-asian restaurants we can assure you not only is all our meat halal but great care and pride is taken to prepare our mouth watering specials for Eid.
With Lamb our star of our specials board, be sure to pop in between the 14th and 20th of October to enjoy our beautiful lamb specials.
Our cooks at bintang are excited to bring to the table the unsung hero of the lamb world, Autumn Lamb
As opposed to ‘spring lamb’ autumn lamb is lamb that is born in the spring and is often more flavoursome and tender than its more heralded spring equivalent. The lambs graze and fatten up on summer grass and are all the more flavoursome for it.
Located in Camden in North London we are very easy to get to and also available for large bookings. Dont miss out and book now!
