Did you know how the Chinese New Year originated?

Well, Legend says that Chinese New Year started with a fight against a mythical creature called ‘Year’. The ‘Year’ has the body of an ox, the head of a lion and lives in the sea. It’s believed that on New Year’s Eve, the ‘Year’ comes out to harm people and animals. Over the years, people found out that the ‘Year’ was afraid of the colour red, fire and loud noises. This is why Chinese people celebrate Chinese New Year with fireworks and decorate their houses with art such as red Dui Lian (two vertical rectangles with poetry written inside).
